One of the first questions asked of every Don Loper Rookie was to tell the attending members who they believed the infamous Don Loper to be. From a position of total confusion, we have all answered that question with responses that were only limited to the imaginations in the minds of the 600 plus men who have proudly worn the title of “Loper”.
Don Loper was the idea of Otto Windholz and a few trusted co-conspirators to arrange a male bonding camouflaged as a golf tournament. From golfers with no experience to would be PGA players, the question of “Who is Don Loper” has been answered by “What is Don Loper”.
A family or a fraternity? A Brotherhood or an army of strangers who became friends? Or just a good time playing golf in some of the most magnificent courses at a budget everyone could afford and become a part of. The efforts Otto donated to accomplish this will never be matched.
Otto Windholz was the body and soul behind every Don Loper Golf Tournaments for over 3 decades. Besides being a wonderful husband to Jackie, he was a father, active church member, a trusted friend, a comedian, a planner, an organizer, a man who never met a stranger, and a magnetic personality that successful men were drawn to.
In one word, LEADER..
Sadly, on December 24, 2022, the main engine behind Don Loper passed away leaving a void in everyone’s life who knew him, and all Loper’s lost their best friend. Again, we ask ourselves what is Don Loper?
While Don Loper is no longer with us physically, his dominate spirit still beats in the hearts of every man who has called himself a Loper. We are happy to offer all fellow Loper’s an opportunity to join the cry to honor this man we all knew as Otto.
